As with certain scutelliform other sand dollars, eoscutelline sand dollars are characterized as having tests that are wider than long. All recognized species are from Eocene deposits. Species are known from Oregon (E. coosensis), California (two as-yet-undescribed species), and from Kamchatka (E. kamtschatika), while one described species from South America likely belongs in another family (Mooi et al. 2018).
